Lunch Box Food Safety

Keep foods safe. When handling and preparing food, it is important to take steps to prevent illness. Follow these simple rules to ensure lunches are safe:

Wash hands and all surfaces and utensils before, during and after preparation.

Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

Wash and sanitize lunch box/bags.

Teach children to wash their hands before they eat.

KEEP IT COLD!

Use an insulated lunch box that includes an ice pack.

Add a frozen juice pack.

If you make sandwiches the night before, keep them cold in the fridge.

Tell your child to keep their lunch away from heat.

Any perishable food (meat, poultry, or egg sandwiches) should be discarded after lunch.
